How to play:
Engage. Connect. Build Power.
Black August in the Park 2025 is an adventure game—and you’re the main character. Once you enter, grab a friend and find the Inheritance Zone, where each mini quest = a stamp towards your Claim.
When you arrive, you’ll choose your bucket—Soil, Labor & Economics, Education, Safety & Security, Arts & Culture, or Politics. Each bucket is a pathway rooted in the struggles and victories of our people. Along the way, you’ll meet Whisperers, SJO Reps, Greeters, and Knowledge Keepers—guides who will spark conversation, drop clues, share strategy, and connect you to real organizations moving our communities forward.
You’ll move through checkpoints, collect stamps on your Claim Card, and build toward the final step: meeting the Inheritance NC Knowledge Keepers, who will ground your journey with history, skillshares, and strategy for what comes next.

FAQs
Do I need to choose only one bucket?
Start with the bucket that speaks to you most—it will be your main path. But you’re not limited. You can explore other paths, collect stamps across them, and deepen your Claim through multiple areas of community power. Many attendees weave together more than one journey.
How do I win?
This isn’t a game with one winner—it’s a collective victory. You “win” when you leave with new tools, connections, and clarity for your next step in building power. We all do when we commit to carrying the work forward after the festival.
Is this kid-friendly?
Yes! Youth activities, art spaces, and family-friendly routes are marked on the map. Whisperers (our youth leaders) will also be guiding young people into the experience in fun and age-appropriate ways. Bring the whole family—this journey is for every generation.
What happens when I finish my Claim?
When you complete your journey, you’ll meet the Inheritance NC Knowledge Keepers—the final step. They’ll ground you with history, strategy, and resources. You’ll also be able to claim rewards and connect directly with Inheritance NC Social Justice Organization (SJO) reps to keep building after the festival.
Can I play if I’m new to organizing?
Absolutely. Claim is designed for everyone, whether this is your first festival or you’ve been organizing for years. The paths will meet you where you are and give you next steps to grow deeper.
What if I want to switch buckets mid-way?
You can! Claim is flexible. You may start on Soil and later decide to follow Arts & Culture or Politics. Each path is connected, just like our struggles for liberation.
